Music and Movies in the Park with Duff Goldman

It couldn't have been a much better evening than last Thursday night. They had warned of thunderstorms for the evening but they never came about and it ended up being the perfect temperature to spend an evening in the park enjoying some great food and a movie with the family.

We don't get out much to any formal activities lately with all the construction going on, so it was nice to put this on the calendar and force ourselves to take an evening off and just enjoy some time together. I was invited by American Express to attend the recent cardmember event featuring Celebrity Chef Duff Goldman and sponsored by the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express. There was going to be food trucks, desserts and book signing from Duff and then a movie in the park afterwards. How could we say no to that? This was part of the summer Music and Movies in the park series, which is a great opportunity to get out and see some great movies in some of the amazing parks throughout the city.

The evening started off with some of the greatest food trucks in the city. Chef Shack, Sushi Fix, Hola Arepa, Foxy Falafel and World Street Kitchen were all present and serving great selections from their regular menus plus some great bites that were being passed around the tables. Duff had also brought treats in from his bakery and the kids were in heaven. The crowd was surprisingly small for such an amazing event but it made for a fairly casual evening and it felt nice to just relax and visit.

Duff signed copies of his book Ace of Cakes: Inside the World of Charm City for us and posed for a few pictures with the kids. Ours were more interested in the large cake on display than in Duff himself but really, who could blame them? With the smaller crowd it was fun to see Duff just relax for a bit and chat with fans throughout the park as the evening went on.

As the sun went down over the city, the screen went up with the skyline glowing behind it. The only downside of the evening was that as soon as it got dark the mosquito's came out with a vengeance. We hadn't brought any spray so we huddled under our blankets with only our faces sticking out. We enjoyed the classic 1971 version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory and then brought our exhausted kids home from a late evening.

Thanks to Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from America Express for a fantastic evening for our family. They know how to throw a great party and I was amazed at how smoothly the whole evening went and how they took care of all their guests.

Disclosure: I was provided tickets to attend this event by OPR. All opinions are my own.

  1. From time to time, you might look at your movie database and think that it's time to clean and to organize. But as life has a funny way of getting in the way of chores, this might be a task you've never completed. Instead of promising yourself another time that you will clean out your movie collection, maybe it's time to think about whether this is even necessary. And then you solarmoviesbegin to formulate a plan of attack to begin changing your promises into reality.

  2. Going out on a date is easier for some more than others, so if you fall in the category of needing a little extra help not freaking out, going to the movies is a rather common choice to give you something to talk about later. You also happen to be in luck because the current movies being offered up at your local movie theater are some of the best that have been made in a while.
